NSTX is unique in the world program investigating

coaxial helicity injection (CHI) plasma startup and

fast-wave assisted current ramp-up.

Priorities for FY2010

  • Develop operating conditions aimed at improving the control of CHI
  • Increasing the current and closed poloidal flux production of CHI
  • Increase ohmic flux savings using CHI by reducing impurity influx
  • Increase high-performance plasma pulse lengths using CHI startup

FY2010 Research Milestone (R10-2):  Characterize HHFW heating, current drive, and current ramp-up in deuterium H-mode plasmas.

Research Milestone R(10-2) above is a milestone shared between the wave-particle interaction group and start-up and ramp-up research groups, since this milestone aims to achieve bootstrap current overdrive ramp-up of an ST plasma for the first time.
